The Somerville Community Growing Center has served thousands of local children and adults over the past two decades, offering a green oasis for programming, activities and contemplation. A wide range of community building, education and cultural programs take place in our quarter acre outdoor garden and forest space in the midst of a densely populated urban Somerville neighborhood.
The Friends of the Community Growing Center seeks to provide an open and welcoming location that educates on a broad spectrum of nature related topics, allows direct engagement with nature, fosters positive community interactions and allows for a culturally enriching experience through internally managed and externally collaborative programs or projects. Each year offers festivals, meditations, concerts, dances, children's play programs and nature exploration programs, workshops, plays, singalongs, seasonal celebrations (Somerville Maple Syrup Boil, Harvest Fest, Morris-dancers and Maypole, Anti-Morris dancers, meditative moon labyrinth walks, Solar Day, Great Camp Out, lots more). We offer this on a tiny shoestring budget thanks to the enthusiasm and love from dedicated volunteers, friends, neighbors, and "alumni" who grew up using the Growing Center as a virtual backyard!
Mission: A place for people of all ages and backgrounds to gather, learn and celebrate – to grow community.
