  • Mission: Arlington Heights Nursery School accepts children from two months to six years of age. We offer a variety of early education programs, including those for infants, toddlers, preschoolers, and pre-k children. All of our programs are child-centered, play-based programs for young children that respect the different ways children grow and learn. We are inspired by the Reggio Emilia early childhood education philosophy which honors children’s ability to construct knowledge through exploration and working together, the teacher as researcher, and parents as the first teacher. The school provides a friendly and nurturing atmosphere where children learn social skills and explore a safe, stimulating, educational environment guided by a professional and caring staff. Opportunities for the children to express themselves creatively and to develop appropriate skills are provided by art, music, creative movement, story reading and telling, dramatic play, math, science, and woodworking activities. The schedule allows the children to have several kinds of experiences throughout the school day. Some of the time, children may choose their own activities from those set-up by the staff. At other times, the children are engaged in small group activities directed by a teacher. Families interested in enrolling their children may schedule a visit, which will include a tour of the school and the opportunity to speak with an administrator about the program and the family’s needs. Application is made by submitting the application and a $50 fee. Admission and placement decisions are made by the director. Priority is given to families previously connected to the school. Classroom placement is made on the basis of age and developmental level of the child, as well as the date of enrollment. The forms necessary to complete the enrollment process and a letter explaining the schedule of the beginning days of school are sent in during the summer for September admission. Toilet training status is not an eligibility requirement for enrollment. The school is a private, non-profit corporation and welcomes children, families, and staff members without regard to disability, race, religion, cultural heritage, political beliefs, national origin, marital status, veteran’s status, or sexual orientation. Children are not required to be toilet trained for admission to any of our programs. The school is enriched by the presence of children with mild to moderate special needs, who attend the school through the provision of chapter 766 of the Massachusetts General Laws.
