What we collect
Volunteers: We do collect personal information, such as name, age, gender, zip code, and email address from volunteers to the site when you register for an account, contact us with questions, and connect with non-profits.
We do not collect social security numbers, credit card numbers, or other private information from volunteers.
Non-profit Organizations: We do collection company information such as name, location, and address from the non-profit organization. Most importantly, we will ask for your company’s EIN when you register for an account. This number is public information and will help us verify that your company is a non-profit within the definition of Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3).
When creating an event on givebacktime.org we will also ask for event information, such as times, number of volunteers needed, location, etc.
We do not collect financial data from non-profit organizations.
Anonymous Users: We do not collect any personally identifying information from anonymous users.
Why we collect it
The collection of this personal information is vital to the function and sustainability of Give Back Time, Inc.
As a volunteer, our collection of this data allows you to track your volunteer hours, locations, and non-profit connections. Providing information like your email address will allow us to respond if you have forgotten your password or sent us feedback on the site. Additionally, Give Back Time, Inc. may, from time to time, send electronic newsletters with updates regarding our efforts or new opportunities in your area. As a user, you will always be able to “opt out” of these types of correspondence.
As a non-profit, the collection of this data will allow you to track the volunteers within your organization, create and manage events, and correspond with volunteers. The purpose of collecting a non-profit organizations EIN is so Give Back Time, Inc. can verify that we are only working with organizations which have been recognized as a tax exempt organization within the meaning of Internal Revenue Code 501(c)(3).
Collected information will also be used by Give Back Time, Inc. in our efforts to prove that volunteerism creates stronger bonds within communities. We intend to track and compile data to show that as more people volunteer within their community, the social issues of their community are reduced and their economy is improved. This aggregate personal data may be used in reports or other materials in the future, but will not personally identify any particular individual.
Who sees the data
When a volunteer creates an account, this also creates a profile. The profile will show a volunteers selected “username” and “icon.” These two pieces of information do not have to include any personally identifying information. This profile will only become visible to Give Back Time, Inc. and to those non-profit organizations with whom the volunteer has specifically chosen to connect.
When a non-profit organization creates an account, this creates a public profile. The public profile will include all essential information regarding the non-profit organization, including address, administrator contact information, and mission statement. This public profile will not include volunteer data or information.
Volunteer personal data will be shared with non-profit organizations with which the volunteer has “connected.” Sharing this information will enable the non-profit organization to effectively track volunteers and determine their future volunteer needs. This personal information will not be shared with non-profit organizations with which the volunteer has not “connected.”
Give Back Time, Inc. will never sell, share, or disclose your personal information with third-parties. More importantly, we will never sell, share, or disclose this information with advertisers. From time to time you may see company names or logos on our site. These companies are Give Back Time, Inc. sponsors, meaning they are donating money to our cause. These sponsors will not have access to any volunteer or non-profit data not available on the public site.
Non-Identifiable Data: When anyone interacts with givebacktime.org we collect personally non-identifiable information. This data includes, without limitation, Internet Protocol (IP) addresses, Internet browser type, other characteristics of a user’s device and software, domain names of a user’s Internet Service Provider, a user’s approximate geographic location, a record of a user’s usage of the givebacktime.org, the time of a user’s usage and other similar information. This data is collected automatically using a variety of technologies from volunteers, non-profits, and anonymous users. None of this information personally identifies users and therefore will be used by Give Back Time, Inc. in order to optimize our website and any other lawful purposes.
